Voksenåsen Music Academies and the Danish String Quartet are teaming up for an exciting venture in strings and chamber music, thanks to the generous support from the DNB Savings Bank Foundation.

This marks the inception of a significant new Nordic initiative, and Voksenåsen’s new artistic partners will work closely with Artistic Director, Peter Herresthal and Programme Director, Anna Florén on Nordic courses and mentoring programmes.

– It is fantastic that we can develop a new Nordic mentoring programme together with such good partners, says Peter Herresthal. At the same time, the three-year support of NOK 1.7 million means that we have the opportunity to strengthen the string and chamber courses at our Summer Academy. The Academy, which is held every year in August, is a collaboration with several Nordic music academies, most notably the Norwegian Academy of Music, which gives school credits for participating in the course. This year, 200 students and teachers participated during two intensive weeks.

– The foundation has followed Voksenåsen Music Academies for several years now and we look forward to following the results that the new focus on strings and chamber music will provide, says Project Manager at the DNB Savings Bank Foundation, Eline Moe Melgalvis.

Voksenåsen Music Academies consists of several talent programs and collaborations with festivals – such as the Arctic Chamber Music Festival in Svalbard, the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, and the Oslo Chamber Music Festival. There are, among others, talent programs for vocalists by our Artistic Director, Artistic Director at the Norwegian Opera Randi Stene, in collaboration with Talent Norway and Folkoperan in Stockholm. A composer program in collaboration with The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Creative Dialogue in Paris/Helsinki. A wind course led by clarinetist and our Artistic Director, Andreas Sundén, in addition to harp courses, piano courses and a major collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Music for brass instruments.

It all started 27 years ago with courses for string players. Now we’re going back to strengthen our core and origins, while going full throttle ahead!
