Meet Peter Herresthal – Artistic Director & Head of Strings at Voksenåsen Music Academies.
As we celebrate 30 years of the Summer Academy, we’re proud to share that Peter has been part of the journey for 26 of those years!
An award-winning, Grammy-nominated violinist, Peter has performed with leading orchestras around the world—from the Melbourne Symphony and BBC Philharmonic to the Vienna Radio Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, London Sinfonietta, and major Scandinavian orchestras including Oslo and Stockholm Philharmonics.
With 22 recorded violin concertos, ten Spellemann nominations (five wins), a Gramophone Award shortlist, and multiple Editors’ Choices, his latest recording of Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto earned two Grammy nominations in 2024.
Now retired from performing, Peter focuses fully on teaching and mentoring the next generation. He is Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music Copenhagen, Visiting Professor at RCM London, Ingesund College, and NYU Steinhardt.
